From the recording True Love Of Mine (2020)
There's an abandoned army base just on the edge of town with collapsing telephone poles and rusty bunkers. It's about 8 miles around the perimeter and typically you don't see another soul. In the months leading up to getting married, I ran out there to find myself. I was nervous about making the transition to the next phase of my life, so I developed a routine of exercising until my fear was under control. As I ran, I would enter a meditative state which slowly gave rise to a mantra. Just like the people who marched those barracks 75 years ago, I was training to be strong. To get through the pain I would tell myself to live a Strong Life. After I'd get home from my run, I would play the guitar and begin to develop this song. I recorded it and gave it to my wife as a wedding present, but also it is a reminder to myself to always hold the line when challenges come.
